Before you drive
Download maps offline
Cell reception is spotty for long stretches of US-89. Download your Google Maps or Apple Maps route for offline use before leaving your hotel.
Avoid driving at night
US-89 through rural Arizona and Utah has no ambient lighting. Deer, elk, feral horses, and free-range cattle often cross the road at night. Plan your drive to arrive and depart before dark.
Arizona time zone
Arizona does not observe Daylight Saving Time — it stays on Mountain Standard Time (MST) year-round. When California and Nevada "spring forward," Arizona does not. Plan accordingly if you're driving from Nevada or Utah.
Fill up before Page
Gas stations become sparse north of Flagstaff and west of Page. Fill your tank in Kanab, UT or Williams, AZ before heading into the more remote stretches of highway.
Page Municipal Airport (PGA)
Page has its own small regional airport served by Contour Airlines with direct flights from Phoenix (PHX) and Las Vegas (LAS). Fares start around $29 each way.
The only car rental at the airport is AVIS. Reserve well in advance — availability is limited. A rental car is essential for exploring Horseshoe Bend, Antelope Canyon, and the surrounding area independently.
For those who prefer not to rent a car, day tour operators in Las Vegas offer all-inclusive tours that include a scenic flight over Lake Mead and the Grand Canyon, with stops at Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon.
